The Buddhist Heritage Project is part of the Lao Buddhist Fellowship, the community of monks, novices and laypeople ("Sangha") in the Northern Lao Province of Luang Prabang. We support and encourage initiatives of the Buddhist community in the fields of education, preservation of its cultural, religious and historical heritage, and on-site environment management.

The Buddhist Heritage Project was founded in 2006 by one of the leading personalities of Lao Buddhism, the late Pha Khamchan Virachitta Maha Thela, abbot of Vat Saen Sukhaham in Luang Prabang, and artist and photographer Hans Georg Berger, to organize and survey activities in the fields of culture, conservation, education and research, and to assist Buddhist life in the monasteries.

We invite you to browse through our site and share our experiences in the unique, vibrant Buddhist community of Luang Prabang - and the broader nation of Laos.
